I had straight hair until i cut it short and it grew back curly how does that work?

If your hair was color- or chemically-treated or possibly damaged by heating implements (blow dryer, curling iron, flat iron, etc.), those factors had an effect on your hair. If that was the case, then your hair was not in its natural state.

Now that you've cut it all off, and it's growing back, you are getting "virgin" hair. For years as a kid, I had waist-long hair. With a mother as a beautician, she chemically straightened it, and then used heated implements to style it for special occasions. When I matured, I took over the cair of my hair. I maintained the chemical relaxers, and then tried different colors in my hair over the years. Though it looked great and I got many compliments, I was tired of all of the maintenance.

So, in the summer of 2004, I basically shaved off all of my hair! I left just under 1/4 inch, and wore that zero-maintenance style to my then-job. I got so many compliments, it was just "off the hook!" After several months, I started to get bored, even though I loved the lack of maintenance.

As of 1/1/2005, I stopped cutting my hair. Now that it has basically all grown back, my hair has a beautiful natural wavy-curly look. I love it! In that time, I have only used a blowdryer or a curling iron one time. I have so many options for my styling, and it takes so little time to do. I can literally jump out of the shower and walk out the door.

Sometimes, it's best to go WITH your hair, than to fight against it. I hope you find out sooner than I did. It took me 45 years.

the weight of your hair made it straighten out

my hair got curlier as i got older...but it might just be damaged...or it really is curly and the length of your hair was weighing it down and straightening it out

The weight of your long hair may have kept it straight.

Mine did the same thing. My hair was very straight. I cut it short one day and when it grew back it more wave to it than if i had gotten a perm. To answer questoin, I don't know. I would like to know that myself.

your hair was probably always curly. The longer it is, the heavier it is, so the curl was most likely just pulled straight by the length of your hair. Now that it's short, voila! Curls.

Well your hair is either straight or curly, and your hair takes form by the way your hair follicles are shaped. So when you cut your hair a lot of the weight from your hair was cut off. Releasing the pressure on your hair follicles, which causes them to take new shape and give you curly hair!!!

your hair is naturally curly, like mine. and it's so hard to straighten mine. if you cut it, it will be a disaster. "short fuzz ball", the shorter it is the curlier it gets. that's why i keep mine long. a good and pretty length is well, when you for example get out of the shower it's wet and straightish, pull one hair and it should be an inch above your hips. that my seem long but, if you put in, "garnier fructis style soft curl cream level strong," then your hair will be pretty curly. also the company called, "catwalk", works great to. they specialize in curly hair. use there conditioner.
